An annual service price does not mean that one issued certificate remains valid for the entire year: reissuance may be required during the service period. Confirm included SANs, base-domain coverage and issuance terms when ordering.

From choosing a certificate to HTTPS

1

Choose your coverage

A single domain, same-level subdomains or several different domains: start with the structure of your project.

2

Place your order

Open the Bit.Hosting billing portal and select your certificate. You will need to complete the required validation.

3

Install your certificate

Once issued, configure the certificate, HTTPS and renewal or reissuance on your server. Keep your private key private.

How to choose an SSL certificate

SSL certificates and TLS explained

An SSL certificate is the common name for a certificate used with HTTPS over TLS. It helps a browser verify the server address and establish an encrypted connection. HTTPS is needed for sign-in pages, forms, customer accounts and APIs. A certificate alone does not prevent application vulnerabilities or replace software updates.

DV, OV and EV validation

Domain Validation (DV) verifies control of the domain. Organization Validation (OV) also checks the organization. Extended Validation (EV) involves additional checks of the legal entity. Choose validation according to your project and business requirements; a higher price does not automatically mean stronger encryption or better search rankings.

Wildcard SSL for subdomains

A Wildcard certificate covers subdomains matching a pattern such as *.example.com. This covers names like shop.example.com and api.example.com, but not arbitrary depths such as test.api.example.com. Coverage of example.com itself and other names depends on the product and your order.

Multi Domain SSL for several websites

Multi Domain certificates use Subject Alternative Names (SANs) to include several domain names in one certificate. They can suit projects with multiple addresses. Before purchasing, confirm the number of included names and the cost of additional SANs, as these vary by product.

GlobalSign and Sectigo at Bit.Hosting

The catalog includes GlobalSign AlphaSSL, DomainSSL, OrganizationSSL and EV SSL, alongside Sectigo PositiveSSL and Essential SSL. Compare validation, required names and annual service price. Wildcard editions serve subdomains, while PositiveSSL Multi Domain serves multiple domain names.

Preparing for issuance and installation

Prepare your domain name, access for domain-control validation and the details needed for a Certificate Signing Request (CSR). OV and EV also require organization checks. Validation methods and processing times depend on the product and certificate authority. After installation, check the certificate chain, covered names and HTTPS access; track expiration and reissuance.

SSL certificate questions

How do I order an SSL certificate?

Select Order on your chosen product. The Bit.Hosting billing portal will open, where you can choose the certificate and place your order.

What does the yearly price mean?

It is the annual service price listed in this catalog. An individual certificate may have a shorter validity period and need reissuance during the year. Check renewal and reissuance terms when placing your order.

Can I install a certificate on a VPS?

Yes, you can configure a certificate on a VPS web server if you have the required access and the domain names match. The steps depend on your control panel, Nginx, Apache or other server software.

Which certificate should I use for subdomains?

Consider Wildcard for several subdomains at the same level. For several different domains, compare Multi Domain options. Always check the exact names to be covered before issuance.

Does DV require company documents?

DV verifies control of the domain rather than the legal entity. OV and EV include organization validation; the required information depends on the product and certificate authority.
